On Tuesday we visited the Dutch city of 's-Hertogenbosch (also called Den Bosch) and visited the Roman Catholic Cathedral Church of St. John (Sint-Janskathedraal) which was massive and the detail impressive. The building of this cathedral started in 1230, and the craftsmanship of the towers, carving and stonework both inside and out in structure and design were awe inspiring. (What they intended, no doubt, although sadly at the expense of the their poorest citizens at the time)
What was also impressive were the Jan de Groot cream puffs we bought, which are affectionately known as Bossche bol, also called chocoladebol ('chocolate ball'). It is effectively a humongous profiterole, about 14 cm in diameter, filled with whipped cream and coated entirely with dark chocolate icing!
Much to children's delight on Wednesday we visited a ginormous play/activity park in Germany called Irrland, this had the biggest slides the children have ever seen and the longest peddle car track imagianable. Reuben did ask if heaven would have play things like this (!!!) The play ground areas are impossible to explore in just one day, so unfortunately we had to choose and maybe return one day!!
Impressive dragon statue as we enter the centre of Den Bosch
Sint-Janskathedraal, impressive both without and within.
Somewhat interesting gargoyles, these are to be found around a lot of the old cathedrals
Olivia about to (literally) dig in to her Bossche bol, and yes the children managed to eat them down to the last crumb!! Oh, she also lost a front tooth yesterday!
Super cool pedal cars - time for a race! |
Even Mum whizzed around the track
Just some wee slides.😊
Even rafting action, these photos are just of 3 of the 88 activities that were
available for the children to do!!
To top off a wonderful day, marshmallows over the fire after a delicious BBQ with family.
So the children say, they are definitely going to Germany!! That park looks AMAZING!! And the chocolate balls are impressive too!
