Italy – Day 5

Italy – Day 5, On Friday we returned to Vicenza to visit some more places that we had missed earlier in the week and catch up on a bit of shopping, first we visited the natural history and archelogy museum, which featured mainly local items of interest. Then we visited the Gallerie d’Itali which had an interesting display of Greek pottery and also an exhibition of Russian Iconography, this was amazing to look at because of its ornateness and fine detail.
Shopping has been interesting while on holiday, generally we have shopped at Lidl – a supermarket chain that we have found in each country we have been in, the range is not that great but the prices are pretty good. It’s been quite an interesting experience trying to decide what to buy, as our language skills are not the greatest and we have had to resort to looking at pictures to figure out what we are getting, or entering words into our google translate app….with a few rather interesting results!!

A cool little preserved bat, we were fascinated by the fine webbing between the legs and wings.  Also some local Roman artifacts...

Ancient Greek pottery in very ornate display rooms, the ceilings were sometimes more interesting to look at than the displays.

Russian Iconography, amazing skill and meticulous attention to detail (many miniatures) are required to make these paintings.
