Istanbul - Day 6

Istanbul - Day 6, At home we wake to the wonderful chorus of birds, here its someone wailing at 5,30am first thing in the morning, at first this sounds somewhat excotic, after a week the excotic has well and truly worn off. Annelise has got the whole wailing thing down to a tee by tapping her voice box, drives her brothers nuts.
At least today the sun was shining and we had another glorious day. Our plans were to go to the Military Museum and Topkapi palace, we did the Military Museum first and spent far too long there as there was just so much to see and the boys were in rapture, guns and swords and shields and armor and the list goes on, we skipped the visit to the Palace as Caleb was feeling a bit miserable as he had a fever.

Our local Mosque, I think there is at least one very hundred or so meters, there are Mosques everywhere as common as our corner dairy

We love the public transport system, we have got the whole metro thing down pat. So quick and so cheap, we can travel over 30km with our whole family for $4.00 NZ.

Samuel couldn't wipe the grin off his face for hours after arriving at the Military Museum,

This gun was used in the battle of Gallipoli.

Amazing history going back to the fall of Constantinople

Stunning 3 D murals depicting famous battles, these were huge and this one depicted the fall of Constantinople, there were others depicting various battles, notably for us the battle of Dardanelles which included Gallipoli.

Caleb beside some trench guns, these were huge!!
and everything was so well displayed.

Samuel getting the feel of a early machine gun.
Olivia better watch out!!!!

Louise in her element, explaining the battle of Gallipoli with the Mural as a teaching aid

Caleb feeling somewhat whaked, whist writing this at 8.30 at night
I am glad to say he is back to his normal happy self.

Some of the more memorable sights of Istanbul, how you get a horse and cart to the centre of a city of 15 million people is any ones guess!!

  3. Hi Jake, Heaps of tourists but we were living in the old part of town, which was tourist free, and in spite of all the dire warnings the locals are very friendly and we were well treated. Definitely a visit to Istanbul is worth putting on your bucket list, Ewout
