Istanbul - Day 5

Istanbul - Day 5. After a number of busy days it was nice to have a more relaxed day riding the Bosphorus ferry to small fishing village called Anadolu Kavagi which is host to medieval fort ruins and unbeknownst to us at the time, a army garrison (unfriendly) and pack of roaming dogs (friendly) , which gave it a really weird feeling. We enjoyed a walk up the hill to the ruins, then topped the visit off with freshly fried fish in a sandwich with lettuce and onion, very simple but nice, and unbelievably cheap.
When we got back we walked from the dock to our place and discovered that there were whole shopping area's devoted to a particular type of product, one area selling pots, another selling wooden implements, and yet another selling toys, and another selling cloths and another shoes and so on. So if you want a pot you go to the potty part of town!!
One thing that really stood out today was the vast disparity between the rich and the poor, and one end of town abject poverty and at the other opulent riches, people dressed to the hilt in the latest fashion stepping over a woman and her children begging in the street.

Fishing on the Bosphorus, either from the Galata bridge or by boat.

Us on the Ferry, the day was a bit grey so not the easiest to take photos.

One of the sights from the ferry, lots of palatial type places, both old and new and historic places.

View of the Yoros Castle ruins

Samuel with one of the friendly dogs that roamed around the town.

Us getting our fish sandwiches - Yumm!!

The Potty part of town

And wooden thing shops

Just one of a multitude of clothing shops, all displaying their wares in a similar fashion, all several stories high, we have never seen so many mannequins of all shapes and sizes
(including a shop selling 5XL to 8XL!)
