Austria - Day 2

Love locks on the bridge to the Old town, there were literally thousands!
The place to go on honeymoon.
Austria - Day 2  Salzburg, a city filled with cathedrals, statues, fountains and palaces with the skyline dominated by the Fortress Hohensalzburg, an imposing structure over looking the old town. We spent the day ducking in and out of cathedrals, wandering down alleyways into plazas and courtyards.

We have watched the Sound of Music with the children and a number of sites were definitely familiar especially in and around the Mirabell Palace.

The statues and fountains were of particular interest, the cathedrals are unbelievably ostentatious and over the top with imagery, stained glass windows, paintings and carvings - and the thing is there is not just one or two but almost at every street corner there is a cathedral!  Each one seemingly trying to out do the other - Still they are amazing to look at.

Lots of marble statues along the stairway in the Mirabell Palace. The children had great delight in mimicking the postures of the numerous statues on display,

'Sound of music' fountain

Just a small selection of fountains throughout the city, they were actually quite interesting.

This is just one picture (to the right) of one of the five cathedrals we visited, and that was not even all of them, we were a bit over idolatrous images by the end of the day.

Amazing vistas from today's travels

One super cool door way to the right - they just don't make them like this any more.

Door to the left is that of Mozart's birth place.
