Istanbul - Day 4

Istanbul - Day 4, The highlight of the day was that Louise and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, we had a wonderful meal together as a family in a quaint turkish restaurant.

The other highlight was visiting the historic Haghia Sophia, for a rare moment in time all of us were totally speechless, we even managed to squeeze in a visit to the Basilica Cistern, which was quite surreal and erie.

Our 25th wedding celebratory meal, enjoyed by all and we were well and truly chokka by the end of the meal, the cost was equivalent to NZ $90 for the whole meal, appetisers and mains, being slightly dutch this made the meal even more delightful!!

Wonderful view from the Galata bridge - ain't that so middle eastern!
The haze is from the pollution 😷
Galata bridge

Some cute frogs we met along the way

Topkapi Palace gardens, a delightful oasis from the hussel and bussel of Istanbul, and yes even a play ground which was well used by the 4 youngest.

The Haghia Sophia,
photos cannot capture the awesomeness of this place,
just so stupendously overwhelming, in size and history.

The Basilica Cistern, all this is underground, quite a special place, home to some famous movie scenes. It stored 100,000 litres of water, even has its own resident carp keeping it weed free.

Washing day in Istanbul 😲

Our local supermarket 20 meters from our apartment, the Turkish people just love hazelnut spread!!!!

Our Street, pretty cool eh! Believe it or not cars and motor bikes manage to get through, we are getting pretty good at braving the traffic.

    1. Hi Raewyn, so glad you guys are enjoying the Blog, its been really neat putting our thoughts down on paper at night and reliving the highlights of the day. At the moment there have been no regrets and the experiences we have had have been beyond our expectations. Love from the Aarsens, PS; it was so funny at the military museum, every 5 minutes or so I would hear the comment "Wish the Wilsons were here" or "Benjamin would love this"
