Holland - Days 8-10

Holland - Days 8-10 This weekend was one for family reunions, on Saturday we had a fantastic time with Louise's mother's side of the family, the te Bokkels, with most of Louise's uncles, aunts and cousins in attendance. It was a beautiful setting at a 'pannenkoekenboerderij' (which is a farm turned into a pancake restaurant with an amazing variety of activities/play equipment for children) It was a lovely and memorable occasion for all who attended.

A wonderful time to reacquaint with family after 20 plus years

Louise and the girls went on 'obstacle walk' with a number of family members.

The boys decided that archery would be a better option, also at the archery venue was a full human-sized 'table soccer' court (see below), NZ triumphed over the Dutch, maybe this should be a world cup event?!

On Sunday we went to Voorschoten/Leiden to see the Draijers, Louise's father's brother, aunt and cousins. There we had a memorable day, enjoying the company and views from Oom Aad and Tante Anke's deck.  Cousins Geert and Aart then took us for a 2 hour boat cruise through the nearby historic town of Leiden.   I think everyone that owned a boat had decided to take a cruise that particular day(!) which was understandable as it was such a stunning day.
After the cruise we all headed off to Geert and Doreen's home for a BBQ tea, which was a fun filled and happy occasion, and the food (particularly the borrel noten:-) were outstanding!

Loading up the boat for a leisurely cruise through the canals.

Cruising through the historic part of Leiden
The canals continued through to the outskirts of the city and time permitting we could
have carried on all the way to Amsterdam.

Wonderful historic buildings and the children just adored the squirrels - Maybe we should introduce some to NZ!! cuter than possums

On Monday we decided, after a weekend of coffee, cakes and delectable food, we should burn off some calories by going for a bike ride around Achterhoek.

Biking through one of many nature reserves

Cute old farms dotted the cycle route

Even the occasional castle and mansion, who knows what is around the next corner?!
